    1. I had been looking forward to getting back into a Caro Ramsay thriller in some ways but in others I was a bit trepidatious Previous experience with Ramsay has shown that she is not frightened of moving locations around to suit how she wants the story to go and this had me worried about what I was going to find in this book.In this story we meet Elvie, her sister has gone missing and the police believe that she has run off with a married lover Elvie is convinced otherwise and after a chance meeti [...]

    2. WOW, I really had no idea what I getting into when I agreed to read and review this book I really thought it was paranormal I did not have access to the complete title you see here and when I realized that it was a murder mystery serial killer type novel I thought I would hate it but it wove such a strange story you really could not get away from it.Elvie is possibly the most persistent character I have read about in many years, she just never gave up and just when I thought I had things figured [...]

    3. Sophie McCulloch, a lawyer, has been missing for 57 days having gone for a run one evening from her home in Glasgow and never returned Her sister Elvira is worried, her brother Grant is suffering from depression and her mother is rarely sober With he police convinced that Sophie left home with a married man, who has is also missing, Rob, her mother s boyfriend has set up a page on social media to capture the last known photos of Sophie, taken at her birthday party shortly before she vanished Elv [...]

    4. This book is definitely one chiller of a thriller Written in first person, from the viewpoint of the main character, it kept me interested the whole way through even though this isn t my favorite narrative style The main character is Elvira McCulloch who is written to be quite an enigmatic person whose physical appearance is mentioned disparagingly quite often by other characters Only at the ending of the book is there an explanation given for this Elvie is having to deal with a family which has [...]

    5. Elvie McCulloch s sister Sophie went out for a run one one evening and didn t return, whilst others have presumed that her disappearance is connected to similar recent incidents of girls vanishing the police have their own reasons for suspecting it is not the case What nobody but Elvie knows is that just before she disappeared Sophie said she had to go awaybut set a date for her return and meet up with Elvie However the date of the agreed meet has come and gone and she didn t show Teaming up wit [...]

    6. Missing girl story set in the picturesque hills above Loch Lomond and that s about as nice as it gets Elvira McCulloch has taken a year out of her medical degree due to her sister Sophie having gone missing Determined to find her, she teams up with a scruffy retired detective Billy Hopkirk What a team they make, Billy the scruffy slob and Elvira the proverbial minger It all kicks off when Elvie heads off up to the hills to her job as a nanny for a local wealthy business man and a naked body appe [...]

    7. Really enjoyed this exciting thriller I like Caro Ramsay s books and love the character s of Anderson Costello. This was one was a bit different as although they featured, they were on the sidelines, however this does not detract from the story.Elvie McCulloch s sister Sophie has been missing for 57 days as she never came home from a run Several young women in the area have disappeared in similar circumstances Elvie teams up with retired detective Billy Hopkirk who s been retained by the mother of [...]

    8. 3.5 Stars The author is not a very prolific writer 5 books in 8 years and apparently is tired of using Anderson now a DCI and Costello now a DI, I believe as main characters The focus in this book is on Elvie who is searching for her sister and her character is written in the first person Costello doesn t show up until well into the book and Anderson barely makes an appearance at all This is one of those books which is written in a style that is occasionally a bit vague so I find myself asking w [...]

    9. Anderson and Costello have rather a back seat in this quirky tale about missing young women Instead the leads are a rather strange, somewhat dysfunctional, young woman and a bedraggled ex cop who is still a pretty good investigator The action is fast and there are suspects a plenty What s not to like

    10. Ramsay writes this from Elvies perspective and this is initially took me a while to connect with, however once I accepted this was how the book was going to play out I found myself absorbed in how Anderson and Costello are viewed from a different perspective The plot twists and turns with exceptional attention to the details, both of the landscape and the many personalities involved.

    11. One of the strangest books I ever read Alice Mariani is one of the most unlikeable characters but it is to the author s credit that at some point I found myself sympathizing with her at one point Freaky and weird.
